Welcome

This current body of work came about following a recent period of experimentation. It marks the beginning of a change in direction with my creative practice, from large to small-scale sculpture. I was interested in how sculpture could be worn as adornment by men or women. These small-scale sculptures are initially made in one of two ways: either sculpted in silver clay and fired or, in wax and have been cast in silver with the addition of commonplace ephemera. These are sometimes personal items such as hair or nail clippings or less personal things simply found in a personal space for example flies from my studio have been used. By repositioning them as adornment they have been liberated from their customary perceptions: flies become beautiful arrangements of shapes and patterns to create sculptures that can be adorned. Redundant hair and nail clippings become precious mementos, echoing and yet evolving Victorian sensibilities.
It is the symbols and metaphors within the work that are important to me not the process of making. There is a conscious tension within each piece. The work deliberately appears unfinished and naïve leaving visible marks from my hand or the casting process, these peculiarities help form the personal chronicle of each sculpture. These are unique sculptures and the audience is invited to contribute their own personal ephemera to create an intimate piece.
Commissions are welcomed. Personal ephemera may be supplied.
